Critical Flaws in MarkLogic Database Allow Low-Level Users to Gain Admin Control

Progress Software has disclosed 31 security vulnerabilities in its MarkLogic Server database, rating five of them as critical. Two of the most severe flaws allow users with only limited management permissions to take persistent administrator control of the entire server. Businesses using this database software face severe risks to data integrity and system control if systems remain unpatched.

Who is affected

Organizations running unpatched versions of Progress Software MarkLogic Server database prior to versions 11.3.7 or 12.1.0.

How to mitigate it

  1. 1Upgrade all MarkLogic Server database installations to version 11.3.7 or 12.1.0 immediately.
  2. 2Audit existing user accounts and review delegated permissions to verify that no unauthorized administrative access has been granted.
  3. 3Monitor MarkLogic server logs for unusual changes to user roles and administrative configurations.
